Bechtel has secured a front end engineering and design (FEED) contract from Pacific NorthWest LNG for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant to be constructed in British Columbia, Canada.

The new LNG facility will be built on the Lelu Island within the District of Port Edward on land administered by the Prince Rupert Port Authority.

The FEED contract covers the gas liquefaction plant, LNG storage tanks, and marine infrastructure to allow gas exports.

Bechtel Oil, Gas and Chemicals business unit president Jack Futcher said, "We have worked in Canada for more than 40 years and will apply our local knowledge to design and build a world-class facility that will bring economic and social benefits to the local community, the province, and the country."

Financial terms and other details of the project were not disclosed.
