The 360 km Basslink project is one step closer to completion with the world’s longest undersea electricity cable reaching Tasmanian shores.
The interconnector, which runs from Loy Yang in Victoria to Five Mile Bluff in northern Tasmania, will have the capacity to export up to 600 MW from Tasmania and import up to 300 MW from the mainland.
The A$780 million (€490 million) project, which is owned and operated by UK-based National Grid Transco, is planned to come on line in April once completed by a consortium comprising Siemens and Pirelli.
