Coal fired power plant

Banovici general manager Munever Cergic told Reuters that Shanghai Electric Group, China Gezhouba Group, Dongfang Electric and a Abengoa-led consortium have been shortlisted. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin in 2016 and the plant is expected to be commissioned in 2020.

Bids were received from 13 companies and consortia last year, and 11 of them were shortlisted in May 2014.

Cergic said that the lowest preliminary bid was placed by Dongfang Electric for €388m ($440.69m) for the construction of the power plant.

Banovici is planning to float a tender in the second half of this year for final technical and financial offers from bidders and the award the contract by the end of the year.

The company will feed the new facility from the adjacent Banovici brown coal mines. It currently operates coal mines which are estimated to have reserves of 147 million tons and average annual output of 1.5 million tons.

Bosnia sources 60% of its electric power from coal-fired facilities.
