Four state-owned banks in Vietnam have agreed to provide a US$375M loan to build the Dong Nai 3 and Dong Nai 4 hydroelectric plants between the provinces of Dak Nong and Lam Dong.

Vietcombank, Techcombank, BIDV and Agribank signed an agreement with state power company Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) to help fund the schemes, located on the Dong Nai river.

The projects, which are expected to commissioned in 2009 and 2010, will not only provide power to the central highlands region, but are expected to help improve waterway transport and boost tourism.

The plants will form part of a 520MW hydro complex being built by EVN at a cost of US$572M.
