The wind farm will feature 80 Siemens SWT 3.6 120 turbines, of which eight of the 60 units installed to date, have started trial operations and are feeding electricity into the grid.

Internal cabling was finished in February this year, with all 41 jackets and 39 monopile foundations been installed.

Grid operator 50Hertz has recently began trial operations at one of two 15kV sea cables linking the substation of the wind farm to the mainland.

Upon completion, the Baltic 2 wind farm will generate about 1,200 gigawatt hours of electricity per year for about 340,000 homes and reduce 900,000 tons of CO2.

Earlier this year, EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg agreed to sell a 49.89% stake in the Baltic 2 wind farm to Macquarie Capital for about €720m. EnBW will retain the remaining interest in the project.

The company’s first commercial offshore wind warm, EnBW Baltic 1, was commissioned in 2011 in Germany.

EnBW has a project portfolio of altogether about 1.9GW in the offshore segment.
