The exploration drilling is reportedly the conclusive stage of four year target generation program besides being the first exploration drilling on 720km² of regional tenements, the company stated.
Historic drilling results at the Tjärro prospect returned high significant amounts of high grade copper and also gold mineralization at shallow depths including 15m of 1.3% copper from 80m with 8m at 1.7% copper and 17m at 1% copper with 7m at 1.4% copper.
It also identified a drill hole intercept of 34.45m at 0.6% copper and 0.4 grams per ton gold from 85.15m, including 3.6m at 1.6% copper and 1.2 grams per ton gold.
Avalon managing director Jeremy Read said that the commencement of the drilling program marks a significant step for the company that has been working on defining exploration targets for last four years.
"Intersecting copper-gold mineralisation at Tjärro has the potential to be a game changer for Avalon. If we are able to truck ore down to our planned processing plant at Viscaria, this would significantly enhance the value of the Viscaria Project," noted Read.
Meanwhile, the helicopter electromagnetic-magnetic survey data identified significant zones of conductivity striking north-south over a strike length of 2.3kms.
The company, however, has planned to target both the dominant EM conductor and the magnetic anomaly besides expectations to complete the first hole in next seven days.
