Australian energy firm Aurora Energy has announced that it is working closely with emergency services to restore power to Hobart's central business district in the aftermath of the fire that destroyed the Myer building.

Andrew Roberts, manager of systems and asset management at Aurora, said: Power had been progressively restored to Liverpool Street businesses throughout the day. Aurora inspectors are currently in the process of assessing buildings with fellow emergency services to determine if they are safe enough to have power restored.

Thirteen Liverpool Street buildings from Elizabeth Street Mall to Myer remain without power as well as businesses in the Cat and Fiddle Arcade, he continued. Of these there are a number of buildings which will be unable to have power restored due to water damage to internal wiring following fire-fighting activity. The Cat and Fiddle Arcade remained inaccessible and Aurora was taking direction on this situation from the Tasmania Fire Service.
