Under the contract, Areva will provide the outage services for the 1,410MW Isar 2, 1,410MW Brokdorf and the 1,360MW Grohnde nuclear power plants in Germany, for several years.
The scope of the contract also includes maintenance and in-service inspections of the primary circuit components, opening and closing of the reactor pressure vessel as well as refueling activities.
Areva’s Reactors and Services Business group sales executive vice-president Michael Cerruti said: "Thanks to this new contract, AREVA reinforces its position as a key partner for service activities for all German utilities.
"We are proud to contribute to the safe operation of nuclear power plants. This agreement reinforces a long-lasting cooperation with E.ON."
Located in Essenbach, Bavaria, the Isar 2 nuclear power plant is designed to have annual power generation capacity of approximately 12 billion kWh, which represents about 15% of the total electricity production in Bavaria.
The GKKG Grohnde-operated Grohnde nuclear station, which is located in Lower Saxony, accounts to about 15% of the power generated in Lower Saxony.
E.ON has 83.3% stake in the project while Stadtwerke Bielefeld owns the remaining 16.7% interest.
Capable of reducing CO2 emissions, the facility generates about 11 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually required to power almost 3 million households.
Located about 10km to the north-west of Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein on the banks of the River Elbe, the Brokdorf nuclear station comprises pressurized water reactor capable of generating about 12 billion kilowatt-hours of power.
E.ON has 80% stake in the Brokdorf project while the remaining stake is held by Vattenfall Europe.
