Austrian technology group Andritz' Va Tech Hydro arm has received three contracts from Endesa Italia to refurbish the company's hydropower plants. The overall contract value is E60 million.

Andritz said that two thirds of the total contract value will go to its Schio, Italy-based Va Tech Escher Wyss unit. The company expects the three modernization contracts to be completed by 2009.

The three orders relate to plants located to the north of Rome in Galleto, Baschi and Alviano. Andritz said that, besides being the consortium leader, its Va Tech Escher Wyss unit will be responsible for the design engineering, manufacture, installation, and commissioning of the different turbine units.

Andritz said that the Galleto hydro site will be supplied with four vertical Francis turbines, while the Baschi site will be supplied with two, with an output of approximately 40MW. Meanwhile, the Alviano site will have two Francis turbines, each with 6.6MW output capacity.

Andritz revealed that, in addition, the scope of supply includes new digital turbine governor systems, as well as the complete power station controls and auxiliary electrical equipment based on Andritz Va Tech Hydro’s proprietary Neptun concept.
