International technology Group Andritz has secured a supply contract from energy developer Fortum Värme for a 300MW circulating fluidized bed boiler.

The PowerFluid fluidized bed boiler will be installed at the new Värtaverket combined heat and power plant in Stockholm and will meet the energy requirement of 190,000 households.

Scope of the contact includes a flue gas cleaning plant and the electrical and control systems.

The plant is scheduled to begin operations post-July 2015 and will cater to the rising demand for district heating in Stockholm, while reducing dependence on fossil-based fuels.

Once operational, power generation from renewable fuels at the Värtaverket power station will increase from 45% to 70%.

Fortum Värme aims to generate climate-neutral heat exclusively across Stockholm by 2030.
