The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved American Transmission Co's (ATC) proposal to build a new $31m transmission line project in the US.

The 345kV Pleasant Prairie-Zion Energy Center project will extend 5.8 miles from the Pleasant Prairie Substation in Wisconsin to the Zion Energy Center Substation in Illinois.

ICC approved ATC’s application for the Illinois portion of the line which includes a 1.8 mile preferred route and two alternatives.

The preferred route begins at the Illinois-Wisconsin border, heading south along the eastern portion of railroad right-of-way west of the Trumpet Park Subdivision, and ending at the northeast side of the Zion Energy Center Substation.

The company filed an application for the Wisconsin portion of the line to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in October last year and anticipates a decision next month.

Construction will begin later this year to meet an anticipated in-service date of 2013.
