Under this program, with every Ameren Illinois residential electricity customer recycling a spare refrigerator or freezer through the Act On Energy program, the participating nonprofit organization of the customer’s choice will receive $10.
In addition, the program will provide participating electricity customers with $35 for each refrigerator or freezer they turn in for recycling and help them save $100 to $160 a year on their individual electricity bills.
Act On Energy, which offers energy efficiency advice plus a variety of financial incentives and rebates for residential customers, will allow customers to recycle up to two refrigerators and freezers that are secondary units, manufactured before 2001 and are still working.
All nonprofits in the Ameren Illinois service territory are eligible to participate in the Refrigerator Recycling Referrals program, which will run through 31 January 2011.
Ameren Illinois vice president of customer service & public relations, Stan Ogden said that Ameren Illinois has designed the Refrigerator Recycling Referrals program to help nonprofits easily earn extra dollars, while giving our customers an added incentive to become more energy efficient.
“This program also is good for the environment. Getting these old refrigerators out of garages and basements and off the grid will help reduce power plant emissions because customers will be using less electricity,” Ogden said.
