Amec Foster Wheeler has received contract from PT Pertamina (Persero) and Saudi Aramco for upgrade and expansion of the 348,000 barrels per day Cilacap refinery in Central Java.
Under the contract, Amec Foster Wheeler will provide engineering and project management services for Cilacap refinery upgrade and expansion project.
In a nine-month period, the company will undertake basic engineering design study, develop the scope for the proposed project and finalize the process configuration and licensors’ packages.
Amec Foster Wheeler Group Asia, Middle East, Africa & Southern Europe president Roberto Penno said: “This is a strategic project for Indonesia’s Oil & Gas industry, in one of Asia’s fastest growing economies with a growing energy demand.
“We will combine our in-depth refinery expertise from our Reading, UK, operation, together with our strong Asian operations, to deliver the best of Amec Foster Wheeler for this important project.”
Estimated to cost approximately $4bn to $5bn, the Cilacap refinery upgrade project is a part of Pertamina’s refinery development master plan, which intends to improve energy security in the country.
The plan also involves the expansion and upgrade of domestic refineries.
Upon completion, the refinery upgrade and expansion project is expected to increase its capacity to 370,000 barrels per day while maximizing production of cleaner gasoline and diesel.
The project will also allow the refinery to produce higher quality base oils as well as expand aromatics and polypropylene production to more than 600,000t and 160,000t per year, respectively.
