The International Atomic Energy Agency's Board of Governors has reappointed Yukiya Amano to a further four-year term as director general.

Amano was appointed by acclamation (or without a formal ballot), according to an IAEA statement.

Japanese Amano was first elected to the post in July 2009, taking over from previous director general Mohamed ElBaradei on 1 December 2009.

Amano has been appointed to serve a second four year term running 1 December 2013 to 30 November 2017. The appointment will be submitted for approval to the agency’s general conference in September.
