Under the approximately €16m contract, Alstom will supply the transformers for the 765kV gas insulated substation (GIS) at Vemagiri in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and 765kV air insulated substation (AIS) at Vindhyachal, Uttar Pradesh.
Located at Vindhyachal, the transformers will help transfer excess power generated in the northern region to southern region, while the transformers at Vemagiri will boost the southern grid transmission system.
Alstom will manufacture and supply all equipment under the contract at its manufacturing facility in Vadodara, Gujarat.
Launched in March 2009, the Vadodara green field facility has supplied more than 200 units of 765kV transformers and shunt reactors to state utilities and private generating companies, including PowerGrid.
Alstom T&D India managing director Rathin Basu said: "Alstom has the largest market share for 765 kV transformers and reactors in India, significantly contributing in building a robust transmission backbone in the country."
Alstom T&D India offers various products, solutions and services, comprising transmission equipment up to extra and ultra high voltages, including AIS and locally manufactured power transformers and GIS.
