Merkur Offshore will construct and operate the wind farm, to be built 45km north of Borkum in the North Sea while DEME Group will instal the turbines.
GeoSea, member of the DEME Group, will undertake the installation work in 2016. The project has passed all authorizations and has a secured grid connection.
Alstom will manufacture the turbines in the new French facilities in Saint-Nazaire. The company will service and maintain the units under a long-term contract.
Alstom Renewable Power president Jérôme Pécresse said: "This is the largest offshore wind contract signed by Alstom outside France on a major and significant market, coming after the winning of the construction of the first offshore wind farm in the US.
DEME Group director and chief executive officer Alain Bernard said: "Combining favorable sea bed conditions with one of the strongest and most reliable wind resources in the world, Merkur Offshore will be one of Germany’s largest wind farms in the North Sea, contributing significantly to Germany’s energy transition plans and the European clean energy targets."
Merkur Offshore is a joint venture between DEME Concessions Wind and the Windreich Group of companies.
