The €28m consortium-led Smart Grid VendĂ©e demonstration project was launched in June 2013.

The project, which will be carried out for five years, will pilot a range of smart grid technologies to address the changing energy landscape, integrate renewable energies and upgrade the electricity distribution grid.

Alstom said its e-terraDRBizNet, which is an important component of the DERMS solution, provides a single active control portal to manage distributed generation and demand side resources.

Alstom Grid Network Management Solutions vice president Karim El Naggar said renewable power is anticipated to make up about a quarter of the worldwide power mix by 2018.

"Alstom is proud to be at the forefront of Smart Grid development, supporting the Smart Grid Vendée project," El Naggar added.

"Today, Alstom’s e-terraDRBizNet solution enables more than 10,000 MW of demand response globally, representing over 1,000,000 end-user residential customers and over 10,000 commercial and industrial customers."

Alstom said it participates in over 30 grid innovation projects globally, financed by private and public funds, such as the recent Nice Grid smart solar district project in France.
