Power transmission firm Alstom Grid has opened an offshore-project office in the Berlin district of Neukölln, Germany.

The new office will handle all activities connecting offshore windparks to the mainlandgrid.

Alstom Grid has secured the DolWin 3 offshore project, which will connect the North Sea wind farms to the mainland supergrid upon completion.

DolWin 3 project has the capacity to generate 900MW of energy and will be built by investing over EUR1bn.

The company said it will handle out of Berlin the DolWin 3 project and new HVDC tenders, including all engineering activities of further orders for grid offshore connection.

Alstom Grid vice president of sales for CEER Reinhard Bahrke said Berlin is favorably situated in terms of distance to the Northern- and Baltic sea.

"Furthermore Berlin offers the potential to hire new highly qualified and motivated people who are interested in joining the exciting challenges offered by the energy turnaround," Bahrke said.
