The proposed grid would connect windfarms in the Bay of Biscay and off the Atlantic coast with those in the North and Baltic seas, RTE reports. Airtricity’s goal is reportedly to enable the whole of Europe to have access to wind-generated electricity at all times.
Representatives of the Irish firm are to brief MPs in London on the issue. The first phase of the ‘supergrid’ would see a 10GW windfarm constructed in the north Sea that would connect to the UK, Dutch and German power networks at a cost of E22 billion, the report says.
