The system will be deployed at the Outlook Crop Diversification Center, jointly operated by AAFC and Sask Ag.
AAFC and Sask Ag will initiate their use of the GroPoint Wireless monitoring system under irrigation pivots in a variety of crops for the upcoming 2011 growing season.
The system consists of a series of field nodes, soil moisture sensors and a weather station, which will feed real-time, soil moisture and weather data via a wireless network to researchers through ESI’s GroPoint Manager software.
ESI said that the system serves several purposes and will provide a multitude of benefits to researchers, growers and the agricultural community.
The system will allow scientists to gather data while they perform various research projects on demonstration plots and will verify the efficiency of irrigation equipment systems.
