Viking Power Services has entered into an agreement with New England Alternative Energy Corp (NEAE) to begin the initial testing phase to recommission the Harris Mill hydroelectric power plant in Rhode Island, US.

According to the agreement, Viking Power Services will immediately begin the initial testing and design phase at the Harris Mill plant. The initial phase will include meggar testing the existing generator and evaluating the maximum torque that can generated by the water flow based on measurements provided by NEAE.

Based on the information from initial testing and design phase, Viking will advise NEAE as to the replacement, repair or refurbishment of the existing generator and existing hydro turbine.

Last month, Rohde Island governor Donald L. Carcieri announced plans for a US$1.5M project to replace the old hydroelectric equipment at Harris Mill dam with a view to producing in excess of 10MkWh/yr.
