UK-based Aggreko has commissioned two gas-fired power plants in Africa which together have an aggregate capacity of 220MW.

In Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), the company has commissioned 100MW of additional generation at the Vridi plant, which resulted in the total capacity of the facility to 200MW.

On 1 July 013, the new capacity was officially inaugurated by the Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire Daniel Kablan Duncan, in the capital of Abidjan.

Earlier, on 15 June, Aggreko completed the commissioning of 122MW gas-fired plant at Ressano Garcia in Mozambique.

The company commissioned the second phase of the world’s first cross-border interim power plant, which is now supplying 90MW to NamPower, the Namibian state utility and 32MW to EDM, the Mozambican electricity supply utility.

The total capacity installed in Ressano Garcia now exceeds 230MW, while the capacity is shared between Namibia, South Africa and Mozambique.

With these two plants coming on-line, Aggreko now has around 1,000MW of gas-fired power plants operational.
