AEG Power Solutions, a global provider of power electronic systems and solutions for industrial power supplies and renewable energy applications, announced its latest Protect B series of uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), which provide a true sinusoidal output to avoid any risk of damage to electronic equipment. The series now also includes Protect NAS, which is specifically designed to protect network attached storage (NAS) devices.

The new UPS are a development of AEG Power Solutions’ existing Protect B family. They are aimed at applications in the small and medium enterprise (SME) and small office / home office (SoHo) market, where they will protect workstations, storage and network equipment. Different models in the range provide from 500VA to 1500VA.

Protect NAS is ideal for use with NAS devices, which are often located in a different room from other IT equipment. It provides a true sine output to avoid damage, and is optimized to provide a long autonomy time of up to 3 hours for a typical NAS. Protect NAS is fanless, to ensure quiet operation, and is provided in a compact package that is a similar size to many NAS devices.

A new illuminated LCD display helps ensure the Protect B family are straightforward to operate, with all key information now easy to see at a single glance. For simple maintenance, the battery is hot-swappable.

The UPS are all equipped with an HID-compliant USB Power interface. This means that compliant devices connected to Protect B will now be aware when they are being powered by the UPS, and can then take appropriate action such as a managed shutdown – all without any extra software requiring installation on the protected device.

"We analyzed the feedback our customers gave us on our existing Protect B models, and used this to make the new devices even better," says Dirk Schneider, Business Director Compact-UPS at AEG Power Solutions. "With new features such as a USB HID power interface and an improved display, Protect B is now able to go above and beyond the UPS features that SME and SoHo customers expect."

In the more powerful UPS range, two extra power sockets are included to surge protection to high-power devices that do not require UPS power in an outage, such as laser printers. The Protect B UPS all also provide data line surge protection for phone, modem and network connections.

The new Protect B series, including Protect NAS, is available to order now.
