The companies are are integrating their technical expertise together to produce the blade.

The massive component of 88.4m has been designed specifically for Adwen’s AD 8-180 wind turbine model, with 8MW nominal capacity and 180mrotor diameter.

The first batch of these blades has been manufactured at LM Wind Power’s facility in Lunderskov, Denmark and will be transported to Aalborg.

At Aalborg, the blades will undergo rigorous testing for extensive validation plan.

In order to reduce the levelised cost of energy (LCoE), engineering teams from both the companies have been working together on the design and in the integration of the blade.

Adwen claims that the wind turbine (AD 8-180) with such long blades and largest rotor in the industry (180 meters) will produce the highest annual energy production of all wind turbines.

According to Adwen, the LM 88.4P blade has been designed keeping in mind manufacturability and reliability and leveraging the expertise and know-how of LM Wind Power.

LM Wind Power has about 25 years of experience in designing and building large blades for offshore wind power installations, resulting in an installed capacity base of 925MW.

The length of the wind blade is also being claimed to be the optimum length for swept area, energy production and weight as well as the loads transferred to the wind turbine. This combination also provides an optimum balance of plant costs and contributes to the lowest LCoE in the industry.

Adwen general manager Luis Álvarez said: "When you are building the largest wind turbine in the world, almost everything you do is an unprecedented challenge.
