Acciona Energy, through its Canadian subsidiary ACCIONA Energy International (AEI) has acquired 50% stake in the 76MW Ripley wind farm located in the Ontario province in Canada.
The wind farm was built as a joint venture between Suncor and Acciona in 2007. With the acquisition, Acciona Energy International now fully owns the wind farm.
The wind farm which is located near the eastern shore of Lake Huron, generates enough electricity to power 24,000 Canadian homes.
Electricity generated from the wind farm will be sold to the state-owned Independent Electricity System Operator under a 20 year power purchase agreement.
With the acquisition of the complete stake in Ripley wind farm, the company now owns and operates a total of 181MW of wind assets in Canada. These wind farms range from the Lameque Wind Farm in New Brunswick to the Chin Chute and Magrath wind farms in Alberta.
Recently, the company provided construction and operations services for the 102MW South Canoe wind farm, which is claimed to be the largest wind project in Nova Scotia.
In April, Acciona was awarded a C$525m ($416m) contract to design, build and commission a waste water treatment plant in Vancouver, Canada.
The province of British Columbia awarded this contract because of new regulations in Canada that require all primary treatment plants in urban regions to upgrade to secondary treatment by 2020.
