The deal includes construction, design, financing and operation and maintenance of an underwater discharge pipeline in addition to the La Chira plant for 25 years to provide treatment services of roughly 25% of the wastewater of the Peruvian capital, covering 2.5 million people.
The contract needs the consortium to build the necessary infrastructure and provide the national drinking water and sewer system Servicio de Agua Potable y Alcantarillado with the treatment plant that will have a capacity of 6.3 cubic meters a second and a maximum level of 11.3 meters a second.
The project is expected to address Lima’s sanitary problems caused by the effluent of the Surco and Circunvalacion collectors that discharge directly into the sea without prior treatment, enabling the Peruvian government to meet its Millennium Goals – 100% treated wastewater by 2015.
The new plant, which marks Acciona Agua’s second Peruvian contract – in 2002, will also aid the recovery of the environment of the beach areas that are currently polluted, increasing their use as recreational areas and for tourism, and helping to promote tourism projects in the area of influence.
