As part of agreement, Accenture will provide back-office support to Endesa’s distribution unit and also help the utility integrate its smart meter infrastructure that provides metering, billing and contract management information, with its current billing systems and business processes.

Additionally, the company is partnering with Meters and More, an international non-profit association created by Endesa and its parent company, Enel, to promote the deployment of smart meters and develop standards for pan-European and global smart metering solutions.

Accenture Utilities industry group global managing director Matias Alonso said the company, as a member of Meters and More, is committed to developing new solutions to support the global smart meters deployment.

”We are focused on working with Endesa to promote smart metering solutions not only across Europe but also in its other key markets, such as Latin America,” Alonso added.

Covering installation of over 13 million meters in Spain by 2018, Endesa’s smart meter program is expected to provide customers with detailed information regarding energy consumption, while enhancing the company’s distribution network performance by improving billing accuracy, contract management, energy efficiency, outage detection and restoration of service when outages occur.

Having deployed over 3.5 million Meters and More open technology-based smart meters in Andalusia, Extremadura, Aragón, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands and Catalonia, since June 2010, Endesa is now planning to extend the program to its customers in Brazil, Colombia and Chile.
