ABS, a provider of classification and technical services to offshore industry, has received classification contract from Malaysia’s national oil company Petronas.

Under the contract, ABS will construct second floating LNG facility (PFLNG 2) vessel at the Samsung Heavy Industries yard in Geoje, Korea.

ABS Global Gas Solutions vice president Patrick Janssens said, "The search for new energy reserves is seeing exploration activities shift to the type of remote offshore fields on which facilities like the PFLNG 2 are perfectly suited to operate."

ABS will also provide a comprehensive suite of technical services, including classification, as part of the contract.

Scheduled for first gas production in early 2018, the PFLNG 2 will be moored through an external turret on the deepwater Rotan gas field offshore Sabah, Malaysia.

The vessel can produce 1.5 million metric tons of LNG per year and is scheduled to operate on site for a minimum of 20 years without dry docking.
