In order to reduce transmission and distribution losses, the 220 kilowatt (kV) and 132kV substations would be situated in the Nashik, Amravati and Nagpur zones of the western Indian state of Maharashtra. The project is expected to be completed by 2010.
ABB’s scope of work includes the system design and engineering, civil works, supply, installation, commissioning and overall project management. ABB would supply circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and power line carrier communication (PLCC) equipment for better monitoring and control of power supply.
MSETCL, a state power transmission utility in India, in order to meet the increasing demand for power in Maharashtra has reinforced its transmission network following the addition of generation capacity.
Claudio Facchin, global head of ABB’s substation business, a part of the company’s Power Systems division, said: “These substations will help improve grid reliability and improve energy efficiency by reducing transmission and distribution losses.
