Power and automation technology group ABB has won an order from National Grid in the UK to provide a market management system to help balance supply and demand for electricity in the country.

The Network Manager market management system will replace National Grid’s current system for managing the UK’s total electricity demand of more than 55,000MW.

ABB claims that its market management system improves the performance of applications such as automated dispatch and transmission security, while minimizing the impact on market participants.

It will support scheduling, real-time management, external interfaces and overall systems integration.

Market management system is part of the Network Manager suite offered by Ventyx, which was acquired by ABB earlier this year.

National Grid is an international electricity and gas utility, and owns a high-voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales and operates the system across the UK.
