Under the contract, ABB will deliver seven 1,000 megavolt ampere (MVA) 420/300 kilovolt (kV) autotransformers and two 300 MVA 420/132 kV power transformers.

The transformers will also support the integration of additional renewable energy, helping Norway meet climate targets and provide clean energy within the country and the remaining parts of Europe.

ABB said its transformer technology supports the country’s efforts to increase the volume of clean energy it can transport over its grid with the help of the current transmission corridors.

Statnett is undertaking a project, which includes upgrading the voltage of Norway’s main grid to 420 kV from 300 kV.

The project includes the conversion of existing 300 kV power lines and substations or the replacement of old low-capacity lines with new higher-capacity lines.

ABB Power Products division president Bernhard Jucker said: "We are pleased that ABB’s state-of-the-art transformer technology was chosen to support a major upgrade of Norway’s main transmission grid.

"As part of our Next Level strategy, ABB is committed to supporting the integration of renewables and the sustainable development of power infrastructure."
