Switzerland-based ABB said its solution will help strengthen the substations to address increasing demand in the Indian states of Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab.
As part of the contract, the company will extend the existing 765/400 kV gas insulated switchgear (GIS) substations in Vadadora and Manesar, while the facility in Malerkotla will be upgraded from air-insulated switchgear to GIS.
ABB will deliver 2X500 MVA, 400/220 kV transformers, nine 400 kV and seven 220kV GIS bays, a 125 MVAR reactor and other related equipment.
The equipment includes power line carrier communication, control and relay protection, and augmentation of the substation automation system as per the IEC-61850 compliant open communication standards.
ABB will design, engineer, install, and commission the substations as part of the order, which was booked in the second quarter of this year.
ABB substations business head Oleg Aleinikov said: "ABB has been growing with India for over several decades and this project is yet another example of our contribution to the strengthening of the country’s grid."
In December last year, ABB secured contracts worth $55m to build new transmission and distribution substations in two East Indian states of Bihar and West Bengal.
