Under the $14m contract, ABB will deliver power transformers, shunt reactors and station service transformers for installation in a substation.
With the equipment, the subsation will allow power transmission from the new combined cycle power plant, which is under construction, to enhance power supplies to the capital Riyadh and surrounding areas in the central region.
ABB Power Products division Transformers business head Markus Heimbach said: "These state-of-the-art transformers and shunt reactors will help evacuate power and transmit it reliably and efficiently to meet growing demand for electricity in the region."
Saudi Arabia aims to more than double its power-generation capacity from the current level of less than 60GW to meet its rising electricity demand.
The integral components of a electrical grid, the transformers, are needed for efficient and safe conversion of electricity between different voltage systems.
Transformer portfolio of ABB comprise power transformers rated up to 1,200kV, dry- and liquid-distribution transformers, traction and special application transformers as well as related services and components.
ABB provides power and automation technologies to allow utility and industry customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact.
