ABB’s suite will include hardware, software, storage and communications equipment.

The advanced distribution management technology includes supervisory control and data acquisition, distribution management system and outage management system software.

In addition to supporting Escom in management of electricity demand, the new system will enhance power supplies by reducing the frequency and duration of outages. ABB Power Systems division president Claudio Facchin said: "ABB is pleased to contribute to the development of Malawi’s power infrastructure with a comprehensive network management solution.

"This will enable the reliable supply of electricity to an increasing number of people, contribute to energy efficiency and support economic growth."

ABB distribution management systems are currently operational in South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
