ABB has secured a contract to improve asset management capabilities at Collahuasi mine in Chile.

The contract with Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi (CMDIC) will see ABB upgrade the Ellipse enterprise asset management and MineMarket software solution to help boost operations at the mine located on Chile’s Andean Plateau.

It is claimed to be the third largest mine with estimated copper deposits of up to 9,978 million tonnes.

ABB will offer latest updates of its software solutions and professional services which will be used in the implementation, training and support.

These software packages will offer visibility across several process chains and give out real-time information so that operations can be managed efficiently and reliably.

ABB said mining industry also wants to integrate with information technology (IT) and operational technologies (OT). This will enable enterprises to understand their assets and resources better and share that information with people across the organisation so that planning, productivity and safety is improved.

ABB claims that its software solutions such as Ellipse, MineMarket and Fieldreach can improve the visibility of operations in a mine. Along with it, the softwares are equipped with predictive analytics tools that can optimise performance in response to price changes, input drivers and production volumes.

ABB Grid Automation business unit managing director Massimo Danieli said: “With increasingly valuable data flowing from connected equipment and devices to operational systems in real time, this upgrade will provide enhanced visibility across the enterprise to further optimize operations.

“This is another example of ABB’s software expertise combining with domain knowledge and reinforces our Next Level strategy focus on the Internet of Things, Services and People.”

CMDIC operations executive vice president Francisco Carvajal P said: “The mining industry is experiencing challenging times making it imperative for mining companies like us to enhance operational efficiencies wherever we can.”

“ABB’s Ellipse, MineMarket and Fieldreach solutions give us a more holistic view of the condition of our assets, enabling our Asset Lifecycle Management initiative to expedite business processes and drive quality across the value chain.”
