The company will design, supply and install a 200MW back-to-back high-voltage direct current (HVDC) Light station in Upper Michigan.

An HVDC back-to back system includes two converters connected directly to each other, without any DC transmission line.

The company said that the other converter operates like a static synchronous compensator regulating device, if one of the converters is non-functional.

The HVDC technology will control the power flow between the Upper and Lower Peninsulas of Michigan and help ATC enhance grid stability in the state.

The link, which will also enable integration of additional wind generation, will commence operation in mid-2014.
