Power and automation technology group ABB has secured an order worth $24m from transmission utility Transelectrica to build a new substation in Romania.

The 400kV air-insulated switchgear (AIS) based substation will receive and transform power from a 700MW wind farm and integrate it into the country’s transmission grid.

Under the contract, ABB is responsible for design, engineering, supply and commissioning of the substation, which will be located in the Tulcea region on the banks of the Danube river.

The company will supply power transformers, a range of switchgear, instrument transformers, control and protection devices and an IEC 61850 substation automation system to facilitate communication between several devices within the substation and beyond.
