Under the contract, ABB will develop gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substation to improve transmission capacity, enhance power supplies and boost the reliability of the grid.
ABB will provide eight bays of 400kV and 10 bays of 132kV GIS, two 132/400kV power transformers rated at 570 megavolt-ampere (MVA), as well as the protection system, automation and control system, surveillance and communication.
The IEC 61850 enabled substation will also support open communications automation and protection.
Expected to begin operations in 2017, the 100MW Phase II of the solar power plant is located in Seih Al Dahal, about 50km South of Dubai.
ABB Power Systems division head Claudio Facchin said: "The substation will help increase transmission capacity and deliver clean solar power to meet growing demand for electricity in the region.
The solar park, which is considered as one of the biggest renewable energy projects in the Middle East and North Africa, covers an area of more than 40km².
Capable of producing 1,000MW of clean energy upon completion scheduled in 2030, the solar park will support the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, initiated by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy.
The Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 aims to diversify the energy mix under which natural gas is expected to contribute 71% of electricity, followed by nuclear (12%), clean coal (12%) and solar (5%).
