ABB creates transformer joint venture

ABB has announced the creation of a Chinese joint venture to manufacture power transformers. The company, ABB Zhongshan Transformer Co is based in Zhongshan, Guangdong province.

ABB and its partner in the enterprise, Zhongshan Transformer Co Ltd, have said they will invest around $30 million in the venture over the next three years. ABB controls 51 per cent of the new company and will take full management responsibility.

Under the terms of the deal, ABB will upgrade the Chinese company’s facilities where 110kV and 220kV transformers are manufactured. The plant will have a production capacity of around 6000MVA, equivelent to 70 transformers each year.
