Viridor, a UK-based recycling and waste management company, has acquired Adapt Recycling, an independent integrated recycling and waste management operator, expanding its waste management activities, particularly in the areas of recycling, waste treatment and disposal.

Adapt Recycling, headquartered in Bury, processes comingled recyclate primarily consisting of plastics, cans and glass and also bales some mixed paper grades, handling about 25,000 tonnes of material per annum.

Viridor, which has complementary recycling, transport and disposal assets in the operating areas, will integrate the operations of Adapt Recycling into Viridor’s Northern region under the trade name of Viridor Waste (Adapt).

The acquisition will expand Viridor’s materials recycling capacity, particularly where there are synergies with existing assets and will further consolidate Viridor Resource Management’s position in the UK and international recyclate markets.

Viridor North director Mark Smith said that the Greater Manchester region is a key operational area in Viridor’s business and the acquisition of Adapt Recycling in Bury will strengthen Viridor’s position as a leading operator in the region.

"Viridor’s acquisition of Adapt Recycling is a positive step forward in expanding business in the key recycling areas and we look forward to welcoming and working with our new colleagues," Smith said.
