Bluewing Midstream has started construction on the phase 2 expansion project of its Bluewing One Terminal in Brownsville, Texas to meet to serve the growing import/export market in the region.

Bluewing One Terminal phase 2 expansion

The phase 2 expansion will give an additional capacity of 300,000 barrels to the Bluewing One Terminal located at the Port of Brownsville. The new capacity will enable the terminaling facility to facilitate storage of liquids like gasoline, jet fuel, diesel and other petroleum products.

Along with the existing assets of Bluewing Midstream in the Port of Brownsville, the phase 2 project will give existing and future customers close to 1.1 million barrels of storage capacity. The facilities will serve the South Texas region and provide exports to Mexico and other global markets.

Bluewing Midstream expects the second phase expansion of the Bluewing One Terminal to begin initial operations in late 2019.

Bluewing Midstream CEO Todd Reid said: “We are very excited to break ground on our Phase II expansion project and continue to build upon our existing operations.

“Phase II will allow us to advance our strategic organic development vision while continuing to provide flexible and efficient terminal and logistics solutions to our customers.”

The midstream company, which is headquartered in Houston, Texas, offers terminaling services like bulk storage, blending, heating and transloading among others.

Bluewing Midstream was established in 2015 as an energy logistics firm for acquiring, operating and optimizing terminaling, storage and transportation facilities along the US Gulf Coast.

The midstream company is backed by Texas-based private equity firm Energy Spectrum Capital through an investment commitment of $100m made in 2015.

Energy Spectrum Capital, which focuses on investing in the midstream sector of the North American oil and gas industry, made an undisclosed investment in Pinnacle Midstream II last month.
