E.ON, with its split from Uniper complete and fully able to engage with what it calls “the new energy world”, sees provision of energy storage as a key part of its future. It has recently successfully won a tender to provide 10 MW of storage capacity for Enhanced Frequency Response in the UK (see item above) and is also providing 10 MW of battery storage for Tucson Electric Power in the USA. E.ON is working with Greensmith on the design of the Tucson battery system, named the “Iron Horse”, and its integration into the grid. The lithium titanate battery will be located at the Science and Technology Park of the University of Arizona in Tucson.
