Under the contract, GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy will be responsible for providing outage and inspection services related to the boiling water nuclear reactor while GE Power Generation Services (PGS) will provide inspection and maintenance services to the main generator and six turbine valves at the facility.
DTE is planning an outage at teh plant later this.
Operationl since 1988, Fermi 2 provides electricity to more than one million homes. Global Nuclear Fuel, a GE-led joint venture, has provided fuel to the plant.
DTE Energy secured approval from the NRC in April 2015 for a license to build and operate a 1,500MW GEH Economic simplified boiling water reactor (ESBWR) on the Fermi 2 plant site.
In May, DTE Energy submitted an application with US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to renew its license for operating the Fermi 2 nuclear reactor for additional 20 years, until 2045.
The original license for Unit 2 at Fermi expires in March 2025.
