The two farms, IVPC Power 4 and IVPC Power 9, have a combined capacity of 31.15MW.
Located at Calabria, about 10km from the Ionian Sea, the wind farms went live in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
The 12.75MW IVPC Power 4 project features 15 850kW turbines made by Danish manufacturer Vestas while the 18.4MW IVPC Power 9 development is powered by four of Vestas’s 850kW machines and five 3MW turbines.
The state-owned renewable energy firm GSE has agreed to buy the energy generated from both the projects.
Eurus and Maluni have not disclosed the financial details of the transaction.
This deal takes Eurus Energy’s total generation capacity in Italy to 200.35MW. The company plans to invest $2.76bn to construct wind projects in Europe and the US over the next few years, as part of its goal to double its installed capacity.
Since 1996, Eurus Energy — a joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power and Toyota Tsusho — and Maluni have been jointly operating wind projects in Campania and Puglia.
The Tokyo firm is planning to expand its wind business in Italy, especially as the government intends to focus on generating power from renewable energy. Italy plans to generate 17% of its electricity consumption from renewable energy, within which wind power is estimated to account for 12,600MW.
