The company’s major shareholders Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and ARC Financial increased their investment.

The management and other investors have also committed to further equity investment in BluEarth.

BluEarth has raised more than $250m in equity since being established in 2010 to finance its business plan.

BluEarth president & CEO Kent Brown said: "Last year we added close to $400 million of solar and hydroelectric projects to our portfolio.

"By the end of 2015, we expect to have close to $650 million of high-quality, long-term contracted hydro, solar and wind assets online, and are on track to have $1 billion of operating assets by 2017. With this renewed support from our investors, we are well positioned to build on our current momentum."

The company acquired five solar projects, totaling 48.5MW, in Ontario, Canada.

The 8.5MW Little Creek solar facility and the 10MW GoodLight solar plant started operations earlier in 2014.

The remaining three facilities, which are presently under construction, are expected to start operations in the next few months.

Construction is now underway on BluEarth’s 15MW Culliton Creek run-of-river hydro project in British Columbia.

BluEarth and its partner, the Batchewana First Nation, have also started construction on the 60MW Bow Lake wind project in Ontario.

The wind and hydro power projects are expected to be operational in 2015.

In 2014, BluEarth has closed just under $600m in debt financing for its solar, hydro and wind projects.
