The substation platform, featuring a jacket, skirt piles and deck, is anticipated to be installed in 2016 by using the Stanislav Yudin vessel.

The wind farm, which is expected to cost €1.2bn, is being jointly developed by Vattenfall and the city of Munich public utility Stadtwerke München.

The Sandbank wind farm will be built 90km west of the Sylt island in water depths between 25m and 37m within the exclusive economic zone off the German North Sea coast.

Siemens Energy is delivering 72 of its SWT-4.0-130 turbines for the wind farm, which is estimated to generate 1.4 terawatt-hours of energy per year for about 400,000 homes.

Commenting on the substation contract, Seaway Heavy Lifting SVP for commercial Koen van der Perk said: "We are very pleased with the confidence that Bladt Industries A/S has expressed in Seaway Heavy Lifting.

"We have a very good track record in the installation of substations for the Renewables industry. This project puts another mark in the sand."

The Sandbank wind farm, which is expected to start generating electricity in 2017, is sited next to Vattenfall and Stadtwerke München’s 288MW DanTysk wind farm.
