The contract with the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) will see ABB deliver a system solution featuring hardware, software, storage and communications equipment.
The advanced distribution management solution features supervisory control and data acquisition, distribution management system and outage management system software.
The new system will help ESCOM to manage energy demand and enhance power supplies with the reduction of the frequency and duration of outages.
ABB Power Systems division president Claudio Facchin said: "ABB is pleased to contribute to the development of Malawi’s power infrastructure with a comprehensive network management solution.
"This will enable the reliable supply of electricity to an increasing number of people, contribute to energy efficiency and support economic growth."
ABB has earlier deployed various distribution management systems in South Africa, Lesotho, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The company has partnered with ESCOM for various power infrastructure projects.
In a separate press release, ABB said it will invest $30m in constructing a new manufacturing site for its low voltage products division near Memphis, Tennessee, US.
The new 11,000m² facility will assemble products from ABB’s low-voltage products portfolio.
The range will include other breakers, switches; power distribution systems; modular enclosure and DIN rail products; and control products including the company’s new soft starter solution.
