The 100KWH ESS system forms part of an energy storage project developed by CSPG. It will balance the supply and demand on the south China grid.
Highpower expects to deliver batteries and battery management system (BMS) by the end of May 2015.
The company’s ESS system will feed power to the grid when consumption that cannot be deferred or delayed crosses production.
Highpower president and CEO George Pan said: "ESS systems have far reaching applications, not just in integrated grid technologies or stand-alone systems, and there is a real possibility this technology will be entering the residential market.
"We intend to leverage our expertise in developing battery technologies to take advantage of the growing energy storage market as a manufacturer, and believe that projects such as our agreement with CSPG represent an exciting new era our Company’s development."
CSPG invests, builds and operates power networks in Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Guizhou, and Hainan provinces over an area of one million square kilometres.
Highpower International produces Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) and lithium-based rechargeable batteries used in a range of applications like electric buses, bikes, ESS, power tools and several others.
