The first project will see Abengoa build a waste water treatment plant in the municipality of Madrid (Cundinamarca); while the second contract includes the construction of a drinking water treatment and supply system for the city of Yopal (Casanare).
Abengoa will design, supply, construct, assemble and commission the facilities, which will treat waste water from Madrid town and provide a drinking water system for Yopal city.
The company expects to complete the Madrid I waste water treatment plant in ten months, while the Yopal-Casanare project may take two years.
The projects are part of Abengoa’s plan to address supply problems in the regions that are affected mostly by water scarcity.
The company intends to deliver environmentally-friendly solutions to discharge waste water into rivers.
Upon completion, the Madrid plant will treat 164 liters/second. The facility is part of the project to clean up the Bogotá River basin.
The drinking water facility in Yopal will have a flow of 780 l/s.
Abengoa has been operating in Colombia for three years. The company undertakes projects globally for solar-thermal plants, solar-gas hybrid plants, biofuels plants and water infrastructures, desalination plants and transmission lines.
