Projects include treatment plant enhancements, water main and meter replacements, and other infrastructure works.
Some of the planned capital projects include water treatment plant upgrades in Hawthorn Woods and improvements to the company’s Kankakee water treatment facility.
Aqua Illinois president Craig Blanchette said: "Aqua’s capital program is consistent with the types of improvements that the federal government says are required for the country’s aging drinking water and wastewater systems.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) expects that a total of $384bn will be required for nationwide drinking water system repairs and improvements over 20 years.
The agency also estimates $202.5bn in wastewater infrastructure improvements for about a 20-year period.
Blanchette said: "The improvements Aqua is making will help ensure reliable water and wastewater service, quality drinking water, and adequate water pressure and flows for fire protection for the families we serve."
Aqua Illinois delivers water and wastewater service to over 63,000 homes and businesses in Boone, Champaign, Cook, Dekalb, Kane, Kankakee, Knox, Lake, Ogle, Vermilion, Will, and Winnebago counties.
